It has taken nearly the entire term of the Juncker Commission, but we finally have a definitive text for the new Audiovisual Media Services Directive (or, more accurately, of the Directive amending AVMS "in view of changing market realities") and an implementation date of 19 September 2020.

Perhaps inevitably, the new Directive pleases almost nobody: very little deregulation of linear TV services and, in some areas, more regulation; the first fracture in "country of origin" with "country of destination" levies on both on-demand and linear services; very light oversight (but at least some oversight) of video sharing services etc.
