Last week the UAE Minister of State for AI, the UAE Attorney-General and other senior ministers met to explore ways in which AI can be introduce into legal proceedings. This is the latest update in a series of exciting technological developments relating to legal proceedings in the UAE. In April 2018, the free zone Abu Dhabi Global Market (“ADGM”) launched an eCourt platform which enables users to initiate, manage and monitor cases twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. In addition, in early December, ADGM launched a digital courtroom to deal with commercial disputes. The new digital courtroom enables judges, witnesses, lawyers and plaintiffs to be part of the court hearing through advanced technology.
This increased adoption of technology and latest announcement with regard to AI into legal proceedings is in line with the UAE’s Strategy for Artificial Intelligence through which we expect to see further investment in the latest AI technologies and tools to enhance government performance and efficiency across a wide range of sectors. We look forward to further announcements and developments in this space in 2019!
