Yesterday at the Cambridge University careers fair it was a full on day chatting with potential new entrants to the patent profession. Despite that there were moments to reflect on the EPO guidelines update released on 1 November 2018 which includes a statement that AI and machine learning as based on classification, clustering, regression, and dimensionality reduction. What about all the other types of AI I hear you say? How about knowledge based systems, knowledge graphs, reasoning systems, dialog generators, theorem provers, probabilitic programming languages, AI hardware such as AI accelerators and others. Let's not forget these other types of AI simply because machine learning is so in vogue at present.
